BEES ARRIVE AT SITES AFFECTED BY VAIA

One of the objectives of the LIFE VAIA project is the enhancement of organic farming and beekeeping activities in the affected areas, also through the involvement of the population and those who care about the wellbeing of forest ecosystems.

Examples of this are the Domus mellifera installed at the pilot sites of Tressilla, Asiago and Gallio and in Cansiglio, donated by Taller delle Terre (tallerdelleterre.com) thanks to TIME-hive  (tallerdelleterre.com/time-hive), an educational game for primary schools. Domus mellifera are artificial shelters for unmanaged colonies of Apis mellifera, designed by the WBA as suitable nesting sites. The Domus mellifera Project also wants to be an opportunity to create a new awareness of the respect and protection of Biodiversity. Concrete actions, such as the installation and monitoring of Domus mellifera, translate into a definition that can be summed up in the term “Beekeeper”, a synergetic expression of the combination of people, nature and actions. It is not just a question of placing a nest shelter, it is a question of being aware that one’s actions can, as a whole and if carried out with passion and scientific correctness, contribute to real positive change.

Two of these domus have already been naturally populated by a colony of honeybees, living proof of how the project promotes productive recovery and leaves space for the repopulation of native animal and plant species.
